  • Significance Of Naming A Child

After Abraham performed a circumcision to himself at the age of 99, G-d told “from now on your name shall not be Avram anymore rather Avraham”. From then on it became the Jewish tradition to give a newborn baby boy a Hebrew name at his Bris. Furthermore, we see in the Torah that one of the reasons G-d saved the Jewish people from Egypt is because they did not change their Jewish identities; particularly their Hebrew names. It is therefore befitting to give your  son his Hebrew name immediately after he enters the covenant and is sealed with the integral Jewish identity.

There are various customs in regard to naming a child. It is advised to consult with your Rabbi, Mohel or spiritual adviser for guidance  in naming your precious little boy.
